Updates to the Nave

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, you may notice some changes in the Music area of the Nave. We’re in the process of building a platform for the organ, to be elevated on the choir riser. Our goal is to allow the organist to better see the altar and direct the various ensembles of Our Lady. An added benefit is that it frees up floor space of the music area to aid in flexibility of ensembles. Last, the console has sustained a lot of damage over the years due to its mobility, and we desire for it to have a more permanent placement to help mitigate further damage.

Its placement also reminds us of its primacy of place as the instrument of the Church liturgy, as the “pipe organ is to be held in high esteem, for it is the traditional musical instrument which adds a wonderful splendor to the Church’s ceremonies and powerfully lifts up man’s mind to God and to higher things.” (“Sacrosanctum Concilium,” Chap. 6, Art. 120) We thank our facilities department for assisting in the construction of this platform.
