Lenten Opportunities

This page will be updated frequently as we receive information about more events and opportunities throughout Lent. Check back often!

Ash Wednesday

Little Black Books

We will have the Little Black Books available for Lent again this year! They will be in the Gathering Space beginning Saturday, February 13.

Each Little Book has been carefully crafted to help you explore the depths of Scripture and deepen your relationship with Christ.

On the right-hand side of the book, there is a verse from the Passion and a reflection. Readers are asked to spend “six minutes a day with this Little Book, letting God speak to them through this scriptural verse.” The left-hand side is like a “buffet table” with a variety of items: Catholic customs and traditions, the saint of the day, historical tidbits and other interesting information.

40 Days of Adoration

Bishop Robert Brennan calls upon the Diocese of Columbus to celebrate Jesus Christ’s Real Presence in Eucharist in a special way this Lent. Starting on Ash Wednesday, February 17, the diocese will launch 40 Days of Adoration. Every day for 40 days, a different parish throughout the Diocese will host Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration throughout the day. Some of the hosting parishes will expose the Eucharist for 24 hours or longer. Others will expose the Blessed Sacrament after their morning Mass and conclude with Benediction in the evening.

Stations of the Cross

We will have Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent (February 19 – April 2) at 7 pm in the Church Nave! Please follow all coronavirus precautions: maintain social distancing and wear a face covering that goes over your mouth and nose.

Schedule of Leaders:

February 19: Fr. Watson
February 26: Jason Gale & Life Teen
March 5: Seven Sisters Ministry
March 12: Deacon Michael
March 19: Scott Ewing & Choir
March 26: Msgr. Cody
April 2 (Good Friday): Andy Johns and Men’s Formation

We will live stream the Stations of the Cross as often as we are able to get volunteers. Interested in helping? Email us at broadcast@ourladyofperpetualhelp.net.

Food Pantry Collection

Each year during the Lenten season our parish has collected food to help keep the shelves of the Grove City Food Pantry filled.  The collection has been designated as “Feed the Poor.”  Paper bags with a list of needed items attached will be available in the Gathering Space beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 17.  The food collection will end on Palm Sunday, March 28.

Men’s Conference

The 24th Annual Catholic Men’s Conference will be held virtually on Saturday, February 27, 2021. This year’s theme is “Called to be Saints.” Even though the conference is being held virtually, there are parishes that are hosting viewing if the program. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a host site for this year’s virtual conference.

Please join us from 9 am to Noon on February 27 in the basement of the church. We will have space for approximately 50 attendees to allow for proper social distancing. When you register, please ensure you select Our Lady as the site where you will view the conference. We will monitor the registrations to make sure we do not exceed the maximum capacity. We will be providing breakfast items during the viewing.

If your registration is completed by February 8, you will receive an advance copy of The PATH book written by our keynote speaker Devin Schadt as well as a hard copy of the conference program booklet. Online registration can be completed at the button below. The cost of this year’s conference is $10.

Confession Opportunities

As we did this past Advent, we plan to offer more opportunities throughout the week for Confessions rather than one large penance service. Our additional opportunities for Confession are:

  • Friday, March 19, for the Feast of St. Joseph, 7-8 pm (concurrent with Stations)
  • Wednesday, March 24, 7-8 pm
  • Monday, March 29, (Monday of Holy Week) 4-7 pm for the Diocesan-wide Real Presence, Real Future day
  • Wednesday, March 31, (Wednesday of Holy Week) 7-8 pm

We will also keep our usual time of 4 to 4:30 pm on Saturdays available for Confessions.

Virtual Walking Stations of the Cross

In light of the pandemic, the annual diocesan Walking Stations of the Cross will not be offered in-person on Good Friday.  However, the offices of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and Social Concerns are working with local parishes and the Diocesan Youth Council to provide video and audio reflections for small groups, families, and individuals.  There also will be a guide provided with a map of the Walking Stations route for those interested in making a self-guided pilgrimage in downtown Columbus.
