Pastor Update

Dear Parish Family,

By now, we are probably all tired of hearing about the “uncertainty of these times” and similar notions. Many of us are overwhelmed and burnt out from the events of this year and their after effects. The unfortunate truth is that almost nothing about this year has been normal, especially for our parish.

I want to be frank with you all as to my position here and the search for a permanent pastor. There is no “official” word as to when a new pastor will be assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, but I have been informed that it may be up to a year from now. On the other hand, the Bishop could call tomorrow and say that he has the right man for the job.

Rest assured that the assignment of pastor for this parish is not a light decision for the Diocese; that is precisely why they want to take into account all considerations and make the right appointment at the right time rather than just fill the position with anyone. The Holy Spirit is working throughout our Diocese and guiding the appointment of priests to where they are most needed, including Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

I want to commend the parishioners and staff of OLPH for your patience and handling of this difficult situation, and dealing with this extra layer of uncertainty. I have said it before, and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops: this is an exceptional parish, and that is entirely due to the people who make up this community.

While we wait for God to work in his time, I ask that you each pray for the man who will become your new pastor. Please also pray for me, that I may serve you as well as possible in the meantime.

In Christ,

Monsignor Cody
